I eventually unlocked new hard light ship modules - a hardlight battleship has 1X 6L and has 24 shield/armor slots. The defensive components are really powerful, although currently the shield that provides shield hardening is bugged. Ironically, there is an advanced armor option known as Dragonscale Armor. Additionally, each of the ~300 techs belongs to one of 12 subcategories divided between the areas (most appearing pre-dominantly in one area though not exclusively). First League gives a special admin bonus building which also grants +100 edict fund.
